How are healthy foods affecting my health?

The so-called “healthy foods” that you’ve been eating may be causing more harm than good.


Some fruits, vegetables, grains, and protein sources can trigger immune responses in our bodies, and contribute to diseases.

Leaky gut syndrome is one of them, and it is something that medical doctors are working hard to define. To put it simply, the lining in your digestive system acts as a barrier between your food and bloodstream. With leaky gut syndrome, the barrier becomes damaged, allowing substances to leak into your bloodstream.

When this happens, the substances can trigger your immune system to react, causing inflammation in various parts of your body that can lead to a variety of symptoms:

  • Bloating and weight gain
  • Cramps
  • Fatigue
  • Achy joints
  • Headaches

When your digestive system is under attack, other conditions such as Crohn’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis, eczema, and asthma can be worsened.

How does leaky gut syndrome happen?

Your diet, stress levels, medications, and bacterial imbalance play important roles. If your diet consists of processed foods and meals high in refined sugar, you are putting yourself at risk. The same goes for excessive use of aspirin, ibuprofen, and antibiotics, which can damage the lining of your stomach, making it more permeable.

Do healthy foods cause other health issues?

You’ve been told all of your life that too much of anything is bad for you. That’s true even for healthy food. If you want to achieve the best health, it is important to eat a well-rounded diet. Doing so can make you feel healthier, less tired, and have better/more consistent digestion. If you’re looking to lose weight, finding a way to enjoy a well-rounded diet is key. In addition to all of the other benefits, cutting back on overly acidic foods and those high in refined sugars is an excellent way to improve your oral health because it’s one less thing eating away at your enamel.
