Do you ever feel anxious at the dentist?
Are YOU nervous about dental treatment?
I am here to tell you that if you feel anxious, so does your dentist! REALLY! Our nervous patients are more fidgety, more sensitive to touch/light, more likely to need extra dental freezing, need breaks more often…which makes it harder to do our very best dentistry. Many dental offices will offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or sedative pills; both of these require having a friend or family member drive the patient to the appointment or some recovery time after the appointment. Some patients even have IV sedation for basic dentistry; patients will often feel groggy and be unable to drive for 24 hours after the treatment stops.
In our office, we have typically only offered “oral sedation” (which is a prescription pill) about one hour prior to the appointment. One of the things we dislike about that option is the patient’s altered mental state after the appointment is over! It is not possible to hold a logical and detailed conversation about the completed treatment, nor about any required follow-up or future treatment. We really dislike the side effects of these drugs, which led us to seek an alternate solution.
An all-natural way to relax during your dental visits…
We are proud to introduce NuCalm to our dental patients. It is all-natural stress intervention! It scientifically sequences four relaxation therapies to mimic your body’s own process for winding down and preparing for sleep. When using the system, you will feel the same way you do when you are just about to fall asleep.
Taking about 5 minutes to get started, the system includes all-natural dietary supplements containing amino acids. These supplements work with any prescription medications, and comply with all dietary restrictions (non-allergenic and kosher). The next part is painless small-current stimulation to get the relaxation response started quickly. Next step is soothing music played through noise-cancellation headphones combined with light-blocking glasses or an eye mask to help keep our patients relaxed. That’s it! This system can be used with appointments of 30 minutes or more, up to several hours.
What do patients say about NuCalm?
Comments afterwards range from “I didn’t feel anything” to “I feel like I just had a power nap!” Amongst our team (of course WE tried it FIRST!), we all felt like we had no idea how long our NuCalm experience was, some of us daydreamed, and we all felt quite peaceful after finishing the session. The best part for our team while treating our NuCalm patients is our knowing they will not have an anxious feeling or reaction to anything we do; this way, we can concentrate on providing our very best dentistry.
What is the cost, and does my insurance pay for this?
We are pleased to offer first-time NuCalm users a complimentary trial of the system in our office. After this initial use, our current fee is $79 per session, regardless of the session length (fees similar to nitrous oxide). If you have an insurance company that reimburses for the use of nitrous oxide (laughing gas), you will also receive an insurance rebate for NuCalm.
If you are interested in finding out more about NuCalm, we are currently the only dental practice in the Ottawa, Ontario area offering this system. Please feel free to contact us to set up a complementary trial of NuCalm, we would love your feedback!
