Every night before she fell asleep, my youngest daughter reached into her beside drawer, pulled out some first aid tape, and taped her mouth shut. Sound crazy? That’s what I thought at first, but the health benefits and improvement in sleep quality are undeniable. She did this because we wanted her to be a nose breather…here’s why.

My husband is an orthodontist, and as he watched the growth of our youngest child he noticed alarming changes in the shape of her jaws due to her open mouth breathing habit. Also…she woke up several times each week with nightmares, and severe ones at that. It disturbed her sleep…and ours. After reading about “lip taping” we started to do the same for her. After two weeks, we realized she hadn’t woken up with a single nightmare, and she reported feeling better in the morning. She was 7 years old!
