Are You Tired of Hiding Your Smile?

Is your smile making you feel insecure?

If you’re tired of hiding your teeth with your upper lip or hand, you are not alone.

If you come into our office feeling insecure about our teeth, one of the first questions you might have after explaining your concerns will probably be “What can you do for me?”

The answer to that depends on a lot of things. Are you concerned about the size of your teeth? The colour? The spacing? But the main things that determine the answer is the condition of your teeth and your desired results.

What is the best way to fix teeth that I’m insecure about?

You should be an active participant in solving any problems related to your oral health. Today’s digital technology makes it easy to do that. Your dentist can take a picture of the problem area and put it on a monitor. That way you can see what your dentist sees and you can be informed when making a decision on the next steps.

That’s what we do with our patients. We give you all of your options, including our opinion on the most common treatment methods.

Are braces the best way to move teeth?

It depends.

For some patients, moving the front teeth will not get them the desired result. All it would do is create spaces between the teeth. Plus, if there are other concerns such as staining, those problems will not be addressed solely by braces.

Is crowning teeth the best way to get the colour right?

Not always. This can address staining, but if the crowns are on the front teeth, they may look much bigger and out of proportion compared to the patient’s other teeth.

What is the best way to get a predictable result at the dentist?

Before your dentist even touches your teeth, you should be given an idea of what the end result will look like.

One of our recent patients came to us with these exact concerns. They ended up choosing to get crowns on their six front teeth. We were able to manipulate the length and width of each crown so that they were proportionate and fit the Golden Ratio (a mathematical formula that fosters organic and natural-looking compositions that are pleasing to look at). By making all six crowns at the same time, they were the same colour, giving the patient the beautiful smile they always wanted.

To accomplish this, we took a model of their teeth and stimulated the outcome by using a lifelike, tooth-coloured wax. This stage is considered a trial run. Once the patient agreed to the treatment, we prepared their teeth for crowns and used the wax prototype to make temporary teeth. This was their second chance to make sure they were getting exactly what they wanted.

If they decided that they wanted the teeth to be more square or round, we could have shaped them to be so. Once they were happy with the results, we took another impression of the altered temporary teeth so that the lab could duplicate them.

This process gave us and the patient well-controlled and expected outcomes. They came in for their appointment and left with a smile they were proud of after a few hours.
